*** John Bray Sr. enlisted in September of 1777 in Romney, Hampshire County, VA and served as a private in Captain William Voss's company of Col. James Wood's Virginia Regiment. He was wounded in the battle of Brandywine, and also fought in the battles of Monmouth and Stony Point. He was discharged after three years.
The executor of his will was Rev. John Pavy. The three girls from his first marriage were themselves married at the time of his death. They and the boys got one dollar each. The younger girls (from the second marriage) each got one bed and bedding, and the youngest son George got the land; subject of course to his mother's usufruct until she died or remarried.
